Cities I Called Home
Five woodcut maps—Aligarh, Bangkok, Delhi, Paris, and New York—turn the geography of Zarina’s life into an autobiographical sequence.

The five cities form a compact map of a much longer life. Aligarh was the place of birth and remembered home; Bangkok was where Zarina first learned woodcut; Delhi and Paris marked decisive periods of artistic formation; New York became her home and studio for more than three decades.
Read in sequence, the maps become less a geographic itinerary than an emotional one. Each city is reduced to a spare black form, allowing lived experience—learning, departure, work, friendship, and return—to inhabit the map.
